What do you find? I chose to search through "Votes Count", it contains information on FY11 highlights, state data, school funding, formulas, and federal links. Each tab has information for the upcoming school year and it includes information for each state.
What new information is available? Families-There is a checklist that can be downloaded and printed for paretns, who are searching for a high quality Pre-k program. There are also links for parents to read on how to help their child to be ready for pre-k as well as kindergarten.
Yes, this website is very helpful to teachers and professionals. The data provided can help policy makers and advocates to continue to voice their opinions and prove that Pre-k is a much needed program and that early childhood education must be of the highest quality.
In closing, I learned that all states are going through some type of crisis with early childhood education and the main concern should be "What is best for all young children."
I like the idea of having a checklist for the parents, because a lot of parents really don't know what to look for when they hear the words "high-quality." I always suggest for the parents to ask if the program is "accredited" because this let me know that the program has gone above the norm to stand above the rest. This checklist can be used as another resouce tool for educating our parents.
ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of that checklist that can help parents evaluate programs, to better deside what is the best obtion for their child.I wonder how many of our low income families really explore these obtions. Do they actually stop and evaluate the quality of the programs before enrolling their child, or is it basickly the need to find an affortable place to leave their child what is actually playing an important factor today. Considering the economic situation that many of our families are facing today.
ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. That is a great resource to get information on school funding, state data, and federal links. I have to agree with the newsclipping as well.
Lori,
ReplyDeleteThat is great to know about the checklist that can be printed off for parents in order to find a high-quality Pre-K program. I may have to print that out since we have begun looking for a progam for my son. The main concern anytime there is a crisis within the early education system should be "What is best for all young children?" I am glad to see tha is the case with the current "crisis". And I agree, I cannot support 'dumb' cuts made to the education system of any form... even 'smart' cuts should be a last resort. We really need politicians that can decipher between the two.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a checklist. It is always difficult to make a decision when it become personal and as a parentit is difficult to leave your child at school not knowing the teachers or what to expect while you are not with your child. The most difficult thing I ever did was to leave my daughter in daycare and I knwo dread leaving her in a big scary class at school! A checklist might allevaite some of the questions a stressed parent might forget to think of asking!
